Transform Your Office Into A Tropical Oasis With Hanging Plants!

Ever wondered how you can instantly revitalize your working space? The solution for an effortless tropical ambiance is simple: suspending plants is the way to go!

I have been working for years in an office with lots of bright light and potential, but it was filled with old stuff (old carpet, old furniture, old appliances, and don’t get me started on the curtains!) They say a picture is worth a thousand words… so, here it is, my old office before I renovated it.

Although the office overlooks a superb panoramic view, I always felt those beautiful forests were outside and far away while I was missing caring for something green “close to me.”

I don’t usually keep plants in my house because I am never there. I spend most of my time at the office. At least 8 hours a day.

Every day.

That’s when I had the idea to bring the beauty of the outdoors inside and transform my office into a “botanical office.” With lots and lots of plants. Loads of plants, of all colors, sizes and shapes and go bankrupt.

Indoor tropical plants are the perfect way to brighten up your living space and add an exotic touch. Not only are these plants beautiful, but studies show that having living plants nearby can also reduce stress levels, boost productivity, and promote a healthier lifestyle.

In this article, I will explore the many different kinds of tropical plants you can fit indoors, help you pick the best ones for your space, and give you the tips you need to keep them in top condition.

Incredible Interior Transformation: Achieve a Jungle Look with Suspended Planters

Nothing gives an exotic touch like plants that are hanging from the ceilings. This is how I created a gorgeous, carefree corner that makes a real difference in my office.

When I visited my plant nursery, I was drawn to the tropical section. I was dreaming of a lush, tropical oasis in my office, and I just knew that with the right suspended planters, I could easily create a jungle-inspired look in my working space.

My choice fell on this beautiful trio: a fern, a Piper crocatum, and a Pothos.

One of the advantages of tropical plants is that they put you in a good mood, especially during gloomy days. On a side table, I put a small composition of humidity lovers dwarf plants as you see in the picture.

On the table: a Composition of Pilea hitchcokii, some nerve plants and a Syngonium

It is essential to choose plants that thrive in the same conditions. They all must have the same humidity, temperature, and light requirements. Remember that tropical plants need some dedication and are usually not the most user-friendly, at least not for beginners. Let’s have a closer look at these plants:

Ferns

Ferns are one of those plants that have been around for centuries – and for a good reason. If you’re looking to bring a touch of the outdoors to your home or office, ferns are a great addition to any space.

You need to remember that they do need proper care and attention to keep them healthy and beautiful. Make sure they have the right amount of humidity (ferns love humidity), are misted frequently, and are kept away from drafts. With the ideal conditions, this plant grows relatively quickly and needs to be repotted every few years, handling its roots with care.

Ferns love moderate light but can survive in shady areas of your office. If you can, give your fern a position near a window that gets morning or late afternoon sun. Remember to keep this plant away from direct sunlight, especially during the summer.

If neglected, ferns will dry relatively quickly and will shed their dead leaves, making a mess all around them. You have been warned!

Ferns bring a delicate exotic feeling to any space. With the proper care and attention, you can keep your working space full of that lush, airy atmosphere you love.

The average cost of a fern is from $5 for baby ferns to $25 for adult plants.

Piper Crocatum

Piper crocatum is a fascinating tropical plant that is loved for its beautiful pink veins that are found along its glossy leaves. While it may not be the easiest plant for beginners to grow, there are several things that you can do to ensure that it thrives.

I wrote an article on how to care for Piper crocatum that you can read here.

In a nutshell, Piper crocatum needs a humid environment and bright indirect light to thrive. You might consider putting a humidifier in your office. The plant needs feeding every two or three weeks with a general houseplant fertilizer.
Piper crocatum is a beautiful tropical plant that can be a fun addition to any home for those willing to put in the effort to care for it. With the right environment and care, it will thrive, creating a beautiful addition to your home.

The average cost of Piper crocatum: this plant is probably the most expensive of the trio. It costs an average of $25 to $40 for an adult plant; however, it is very easy to propagate, so if you know someone that owns this plant, don’t hesitate to take some cuttings from them!

Pothos

Pothos plants are beautiful and easy to care for, making them very popular in any home or office. Honestly, I never really liked this plant “per se.” I was used to seeing it everywhere and always found it quite dull. Then one day, I realized that if this plant is so popular, there must be a reason!

First, it’s a great plant for beginners and experts alike. Secondly, its lush green foliage and trailing vines make it stylish and eye-catching, and when paired with other plants, the effect is mesmerizing.

To keep your pothos plants healthy, there are some essential care tips to follow.

Like the first two plants I spoke about before, pothos plants love warm temperatures and a good level of humidity. They don’t like to be misted thou. Don’t expose the plant to drafts and low temperatures. The plant will suffer greatly.

Pothos likes bright indirect light. It tends to become leggy if it doesn’t receive enough light.

Let the soil dry completely between waterings, as this plant suffers from root rot. If you notice that the plant’s soil is not drying or it takes a long time to dry, here is an article I wrote on the subject.

In conclusion, pothos plants are an accessible and low-maintenance way to bring nature into any office.

The average cost of a pothos plant is from $3 to $20 for an adult plant.

Other great combinations of suspended plants with the same requirements are: Spider plants, English ivy and Syngonium. This is what I have in my office:

Among the succulents (that require dry conditions and very bright light): String of bananas, string of pearls and Ruby Necklace.

Get creative with colors, shapes and sizes!

As you can see from my pictures, I always try to mix different colors to make the combination more interesting. Remember, plants aren’t just green!

I fell in love with this beautiful drop-shaped glass terrarium. So I hung it to one of my suspended planters and filled it with tiny dwarf succulents. It adds some magic to the whole scene.

For hanging my plants, I chose these beautiful macrame plant hangers that add a touch of boho style to my office, and I admit I am happy with them. They come as a set of four, the cords are very sturdy, and overall the product is high quality.

Conclusion

Suspending planters from your ceiling is an easy and effective way to create some style in any room. Whether you prioritize texture, color, or size, you’ll find plenty of options to explore when choosing plants and planters to give your space a cool, jungle-inspired look.
